CONTEXT
Zijin County is located in the east-central part of Guangdong Province, southeast of Heyuan City and on the east bank of the middle course of the Dongjiang River. Over 80% of the county is mountainous and hilly, known as Eight Mountains, a River, and a Field. Feng’an Town is located 56 kilometers southwest of Zijin County, known as Dreamlike Feng’an and resembles the Lijiang River, exhibiting the phenomenon of ten miles of different styles and one hundred miles of different customs. Huilong Village, located in a low mountain and hilly environment, is one of the most remote villages in Feng’an Town, Zijin County, with a pleasant climate, beautiful mountains and waters. clear. The texture of the village is both sparse and dense, and the buildings follow the road as they please, dotted among green hills and verdant forests.

At present, with the continuous innovation and development of grassroots party building, Party Service Center has come into being. The construction of party service centers across the country is in full swing. The original party service center in Huilong Village was transformed from two-story houses in the village, with backward functions and closed spaces. At the invitation of the Shenzhen branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Shenzhen Military-Civil Integration Office at the end of 2019, we, as the Assisted Design Unit, had the honor of participating in construction of the Huilong village feast service. Center.

Based on survey and field survey, most of the residential buildings in Huilong Village are newly constructed two and three story peasant houses and few of the original residential buildings are preserved. The entire village varies considerably due to the undulations in the topography, and the residential houses are arranged in a linear decentralized layout depending on local conditions. The village lacks a multifunctional service activity center with centripetal and locality. After many twists and turns in the site selection, the site was finally selected as a square plot of approximately 237 square meters adjacent to the primary school campus currently in use. The villagers have good accessibility, high ground and a wide view of the landscape. There is also an abandoned site on the east side that can be used.

TO PLACE
The south side of the project plot is adjacent to the existing village primary school teaching building; the west and north sides are surrounded by woods and separated from the mountainous landscape on the north side. Standing in the middle of the site, people can admire the surrounding mountains through the woods. After having arranged the building of the Party Service Center, we hope that the building and the surrounding landscape elements can be integrated to form a semi-closed place. Therefore, a long, low wall is installed on the northeast side of the site to extend the boundaries of the building and define a new outer courtyard with the building as the place for outdoor activity. Therefore, the Party Service Center faces the event square and is an important interface to it. The internal function of the building must form a space and a line of sight, an interaction and a dialogue with the external place during a specific period, which constitutes the relation between seeing and being seen. The outer courtyard plaza is equipped with a stage for villagers’ gatherings, festival celebrations, outdoor film screenings and other functions. As a result, the once abandoned site has also been regenerated and revitalized.

SPACE
As a rural public place in the new era, the Party Service Center is not only an efficient way for party members to contact the masses to accomplish their tasks, but also a place where villagers gather and exchange daily and get information, featuring both the public and everyday. We hope to create an open and regional space to host the various activities and daily events of the villagers. The plan pursues and refines the spatial prototype of local dwellings, using courtyards and courtyards to organize architectural functions and form internal and external spatial order. By dissolving the border of duality between interior and exterior space, the fluidity of the interior and exterior of the building space is enhanced. The limitation, transformation, intertwining, penetration and integration of the interior and exterior of architectural space present a variety of spatial states and the possibility of activities. As the main body of the building, the space forms a tangible spatial support and an intangible spirit of place in the construction logic of the space itself, demonstrating the tension of architectural space.

FUNCTION
In standard building guidelines, party service center functions typically include a convenience activity room, office lobby, full service room, office and meeting room, etc. During the process of investigation and exchange of plans, it was learned that Huilong village is rich in local specialties such as high mountain green tea, black tea, passion fruit, citrus, dragon fruit and other organic foods. Therefore, functions such as agricultural product display and sales training have been added. On the ground floor of the building, the exhibition, reception, office hall, a full service room and a practical activity room are organized around the bright courtyard to open onto the outside. . The flat space on the ground floor is flexibly divided by the arrangement of folding doors. If required, all folding doors can be opened to form an enlarged and connected external exhibition hall or multi-functional activity space. Offices and meeting rooms are located on the second floor of the building. The different sizes of windows and openings in the building make up different shapes of view frames for mountain viewing. The multifunctional hall with floor-to-ceiling glass is located on the north side and offers the best view of the mountain landscape. With the green hills in the distance, people can get a panoramic view. At the same time, the ground floor of the building is connected with the bright atrium, the exterior courtyard of the first floor and the exterior corridor, which provides the best ventilation effect.

PLACE
The Party Service Center has both a spirituality and an advertisement. Based on the duality of the interior and exterior of this place, the concept of interior and exterior courtyard is proposed: a spiritual interior courtyard and a public exterior courtyard. The inner courtyard is the spiritual central space of the whole building. It is made up of a full height wall and a peripheral staircase. The wall expands upwards to form a curved skylight to introduce the skylight, projecting and highlighting the signs and themes on the wall, expressing and reinforcing a kind of spiritual memory of the place.

The public outdoor courtyard is cascading and progressive: the first outdoor courtyard is the activity square of the villagers outside the building, where the villagers can meet for exchanges, square dances, performances and other activities . By entering the building, going through the interior courtyard and going up the steps, people can reach the courtyard of the hanging trees on the first floor. The view of the landscape allows you to cross the woods on the west side to see the distant mountains that surround the village. By going around the hanging stairs of the Hanging Trees Courtyard and going straight up, people can reach the outer courtyard on the second floor, that is, the mobile roof terrace. The sloping roof platform enhances penetration and continuity with the first floor courtyard space, allowing people to walk naturally. The large recreation rooftop steps can be used for the villagers to climb, see the scenery and chat here. In addition, the internal and external interaction of the place is reflected in the selection of the path. In addition, the internal and external interaction of the place is reflected in the selection of the path. People can choose to walk inside or walk up to the outside hanging straight stairs to come into close contact with the natural forest on the west side. While looking into the distance at the natural mountain landscape, they can naturally reach the first floor and turn to the interior space to meet the interior light garden again. Although different routes lead to the same end, switching indoor and outdoor space will bring different experiences, creating a spatial experience that moves with different landscapes.

Space is the body of the building and the vector of activities. The multi-relationship between the interior and exterior of architectural space also presents a state of ambiguity. We hope that this practice will break the inherent closure of the Party Service Center with the boundless inner and outer space in the ontological sense of the building, showing the close integration of party members and villagers’ activities in the new era and creating an open space, a dynamic and natural friendly public place
